As an infopreneur, my purpose in life is to engage in a journey of ongoing personal growth, wisdom and serenity, for myself and others, by playing with ideas and experiences, creating ‘ah ha’ moments and repurposing existing knowledge.  As we share ideas with others, they ripple out beyond the immediate group, and we never know where they will land.

My dream is to grow a community of different-minded thought leaders and bring them together to connect and share their ideas.  I am inviting you to join this community of people, who are keen to explore leading edge concepts, as we grapple together with the complexity of work and life today.

As a member of this community you will be invited to thought leadership events and have access to the Community Hub, which will provide resources to spark your synapses and provoke ideas generation.

I do my best thinking in nature, walking up Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve, with the smell of eucalyptus leaves, the sound of birdsong and glimpses of koalas high up in the trees.  My imagination runs free, and anything seems possible.

Our next event is a one day retreat at Clear Mountain Lodge on Friday 8 August 2025 - see details below.

Choosing a Serendipity Mindset

The unexpected is happening around us all the time.  In his book The Serendipity Mindset, Christian Busch proposes that by adopting a Serendipity Mindset we create ‘smart luck’.  We have the choice to adopt a serendipity mindset by recognising and embracing the unexpected.

We then need to connect the dots that may have, until that point in time, remained elusive. We can choose to see exciting connections between seemingly unrelated concepts and come up with a fresh perspective or opportunity.

Busch shares three types of serendipity

  • Archimedes Serendipity – when you are looking for a solution to a specific problem and the solution arrives in an unexpected way.

  • Post-It Note Serendipity – when a solution is unexpectedly found for a problem that wasn’t even being considered at the time.

  • Thunderbolt Serendipity – when you’re struck by a solution out of nowhere.

Serendipity is often the result of converging ideas. It’s the spark of unexpected insight that can occur when you mix separate disciplines like art and science to generate a number of possible combinations.

A serendipity mindset requires us to declutter our mind and release our biases;  we need to stay curious, observant, perceptive and open-minded, eager to see opportunities where others may only see negativity.

We also need patience and tenacity, as often our ideas lead to rejection, failed experiments or near misses.  It can take time for the right opportunities to present themselves, and it often takes time for our brain to connect those important dots, to see the value in an opportunity or situation.  We must be able to let go if there is no future for our idea.  We also have to hold on when a spark is glimpsed and persevere to turn it into a practical reality, to achieve an outcome that is meaningful for us and those we care about.

Fostering serendipity requires creating a safe space for the mixing of new ideas from diverse minds, and that is what the Serendipity Thought Leaders Retreat seeks to do.

Serendipity Thought Leaders Retreat

12 - 15 March 2025

A Queensland rainforest retreat, where you can unwind, re-energise and rejuvenate, spoil yourself a little, and enjoy enriching conversations with a diverse group of professional and executive women.

Your Community Host, Dr Vicki Webster

As an infopreneur, diagnostician of underlying causes of organisational issues, and ideas challenger, I enjoy connecting people with thought leadership; new ideas, upcoming trends and different perspectives on complex issues.  As the founder and director of Incisive Leaders, I encourage executives and leaders to embrace new ways of leading and make the shifts necessary to lead at their best.

As a pracademic, I am interested in how research informs practice.  I am currently exploring the benefits of facilitating restorative conversations to address interpersonal conflicts in workplaces. I am an Adjunct Research Fellow with the Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) Centre at Griffith University and have worked as Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the Griffith Business School.  I completed my research PhD on follower resilience to toxic leadership and published some of my findings in Stress and Health journal and The Conversation:  Toxic Boss at Work.  I co-authored Destructive Leadership in the Workplace and its Consequences with Professor Paula Brough.
